Confirmed bachelor Max Sterling isn't into rescuing damsels in distress, but when the very tempting Hailey Ellison needs his help, there's only one thing for him to do. Step in and pose as her loving fiancé. Except there is nothing fake about his attraction to her, or how much he wants her beneath him in his bed, moaning his name. But what starts as a sexy, flirty, temporary engagement, quickly becomes something more serious that neither one ever anticipated.

Max works as a Chicago luxury real estate agent. He meets Hailey as she is looking for a new location for her growing matchmaking business. They are instantly attracted, but neither acts on it. Hailey has been burned in the game of love, so she took to wearing an engagement ring both to seem more credible to her matchmaking clients and to focus on her business and not her poor dating life. Max is an honorable, great guy and while he is far more interested in Hailey then he should be, he would never act on it because he believes she is engaged.

One day Hailey is cornered by a client's mother to give the name of her fiancé.....and she names Max Sterling. Later, that leads her into trouble that Max is kind enough to support her through. The revelation that she is not engaged gives Max a green light to pursue Hailey. They keep up the fake engagement for mutually beneficial reasons. Enjoy reading the crazy that follows as the ruse becomes truth, Max helps Hailey's self-image issues and feelings become all to real. We also get to visit a previous couple from this series and see how Wes and Natalie are doing.

This book is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I'm looking forward to Kyle finding someone who makes him want to give up his player ways next.

I enjoyed aspects of both characters. Max was a little weak in character and was by NO MEANS an alpha hero but I loved how sexy Max found Haileys full figured curves and the way she was described physically made it a believable match. Unfortunately once again the "overweight insecure h" was her own biggest hurdle to overcome. I would love to see a story with a badass curvy heroine that OWNS her figure and rocks her story out!
Professional matchmaker Hailey Ellison isn't able to find a man of her own so she buys an engagement ring and 'fakes it.' Real estate mogul Max Sterling has been secretly lusting after Hailey but her engagement ring stops any advances he might want to make. When he finds out that the engagement is fake AND she has been using his name as her fiance, he encourages her to continue the charade to rid him of a stalker ex. Although the plot is old, the engaging characters, witty dialogue, and excellent writing make this book hard to put down. ***********WARNING************ For those who want a sweet, clean romance....skip this one. It is not for you. Readers who want hot, graphic sex and dirty talk...grab this book. You will love it. For middle-of-the-road readers like me....well, that is up to you to decide. I confess that I did a lot of skipping and skimming over the sex scenes...both phone and physical. I loved the story and characters, but there was a little more sex than I prefer.

Language (LOTS of f-bombs and sex talk) and Sexual situations (HOT and graphic) may offend some readers
To say this book was phoned in is an insult to telephones everywhere. I'll grant you, pick up a book about a "fake engagement" and you know it's not going to be Shakespeare. However, interesting characters and a little more plot would make the reading experience enjoyable, perhaps even memorable. None of that applies to "Faking It." To begin with H and h act and react like fifth graders but here again I might be insulting fifth graders. And the Big Conflict in the end is resolved by (spoiler alert) HIS MOTHER. Finally, the villain of the piece is a cartoon character that doesn't so much inspire the reader to cheer for her unmasking as make us roll our eyes.

I've read reviews before where the reviewers toss out the possibility that the author had "help" from an anonymous assistant because the book just doesn't read like the author as you've come to know her through her previous work. Judging from the prodigious output of these two authors--Phillips in particular has become an industry--that thought did cross my mind.
I’m pretty sure Faking It’s hero is a unicorn, and we know how women loooove unicorns. Max Sterling is one of those rare men who have it all looks, charm, intelligence, and success. He’s got it, isn't afraid to use it, and knows exactly what to do with it. Plus, this sexy dirty talker is sweet, respects his mama *swoon*, and has no discernible hang-ups that I could find. See what I'm talkin' about? A total unicorn.

Hailey has been attracted to Max since they met, but she doesn’t feel a man of his “caliber” would ever be interested in her. She's been hurt before so has shied away from lasting relationships, which has led her to get herself into an embarrassing bind. Max's endearing inability to tell his mama “no” has created a nightmare he can't shake. A fake engagement sounds like the perfect solution to solve both their problems. And since they’re pretending, why not act on the lust they both feel for one another and enjoy all the pleasures of being a couple?

Faking It is a new play on an old trope, and it really worked for me. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Max and Hailey’s relationship develop, as well as Hailey’s confidence in herself. Max, mindful of Hailey’s skittishness and inexperience, challenged her but also took great care with her. It was at once seductive and adorable. The story has plenty of steam, but is a lot sweeter than these two authors usually write. It left me with a sappy grin and a feeling of reader contentment that had been alluding me for months.

Kudos to Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde for creating such a unique and captivating cast of characters for the Book Boyfriends series. They're a fun group that I can't help but love and want to spend more reading time about. Seeing them all again in Faking It was a real treat, and makes me even more anxious for the next book in the series. It sounds like one of my favorite tropes, and I cannot wait.
I did not like the crude language at all, I spent most of my time skipping past the parts I did not want to read. The story was ok but the language just spoiled it for me.
