Dead Drunk is the moving and powerful story of a teenager who lost himself to alcohol addiction after the breakdown of his parents' marriage.

Paul Garrigan has written an honest (and often darkly humorous) account of his alcoholism.

His adventures took him from the quiet suburbs of Dublin to begging on the streets of London, getting paid to drink in Oxford, and swigging illegal booze in Saudi Arabia, before finally ending up in a remote Thai village where he fully succumbed to his addiction, and was determined to drink himself to death.

While surfing the Internet one night he came across a highly unorthodox detox programme being offered by Buddhist monks, and in a last-ditch attempt at sobriety, he set out on what he was sure would be his strangest and most difficult journey yet.

Dead Drunk is a story of redemption and of how one man found sobriety. It is a story of hope.

Dead Drunk Saving myself from alcoholism in a Thai monastery eBook Paul Garrigan Reviews

Very good book with a lot of insight in this subject from a personal view.
I poignant account of one man's struggle for recovery. I highly recommend this book to those in recovery or experiencing problems with drink and/or drugs. Alternatively, those with loved ones experiencing problems with drink/drugs will also benefit.
Great book for a novice writer Garrigan keeps the mood light for such a shocking tale, one would think he had been writing for years
A great book about a man overcoming his addiction in his own terms. A funny, witty at times eye opening book by a man wearing his heart on his sleeve. Loved it.
Well done. Nice flow
Great little memoir. Read it in two days. This is a brutally honest account of someone broken by addiction, his redemption and being put back together, with the help of the Buddhist monks at wat Thamkrabok. And proof that the 12 step assertion that only their path leads to sobriety isn't so. There are many ways to get clean, and AA works for many and I applaud and wish them well. But many people are so turned off by the fundamentalist tenets of this program that other methods need to be more well known. Well, here's one. Like Phra Hans says in this book, sobriety comes from within you, but there are tools that can help. Use whatever tools speak to you. Just don't assume any one way is the only way. I really enjoyed this book. If you're interested in recovery or this amazing monastery in Thailand, you will probably enjoy it too.
I would like to start of this review by thanking the author for sharing his life and addiction with me the reader. This book is a great read full of honesty and personal insight, not being someone who has ever suffered from addiction it gave me a new perspective on it. This book takes us on a journey through the author's struggle with alcohol and the damage it caused both socially and health wise to his life. We go through the ups and down of being a slave to alcohol and trying to kick the addiction.

His journey takes to Thailand and a Buddhist monastery were he finds the tools to say goodbye to alcohol forever. The methods used are far from conventional and I must admit had me chuckling away at parts, but the results speak for themselves. An engaging read from start to finish I highly recommend and encourage everyone to read this book.
